The first fine weekend of the school holidays went relatively well for Eastbourne Lifeboats with only two calls for assistance
On Saturday evening the inshore lifeboat (ILB) was launched to assist a small yacht into Sovereign Harbour which had suffered an engine failure. Sunday was event free until the early evening when two kayakers were reported as being overdue by anxious family ashore. Initially the ILB conducted a shoreline search from Eastbourne Pier to Norman’s Bay; with nothing found the all-weather lifeboat (ALB) crew were requested to join the search. Fortunately, as the volunteer lifeboat crew were preparing to launch ALB, the missing kayakers returned to shore unharmed and unaware of the consternation they had caused. Both lifeboat crews were stood down and returned to station.
