Wes Mechen presents cheque to Dr Colin McKee with (from left) James Wishman, Jamie Regan and Paul Rogers

Three crewmen from Eastbourne lifeboats joined 150 other runners in the inaugural Tempo 10k run along Eastbourne promenade last weekend to raise funds for two local charities.

The event was conceived and organised by Wes Mechen, owner of specialist running shop Tempo based in Susan’s Road Eastbourne. Held in perfect weather conditions, runners started at the Holywell tea rooms on the lower esplanade and made their way to Eastbourne pier and back. All proceeds and collections on the day were donated to Eastbourne lifeboats and the Special Olympics of Eastbourne. With entry limited to 150 entrants the event was soon oversubscribed prompting Wes’s optimism that next year’s event could be even bigger and better.

Whilst presenting a cheque for £200 to Dr. Colin Mckee, Chairman of the Eastbourne lifeboat Management Group, Wes said he was delighted the event proved to be so popular and it was equally pleasing to be able to help two such worthwhile charities.
