As the volunteer lifeboat crew were dispersing following Sunday’s Remembrance parade they were alerted to an incident in Eastbourne Bay involving a kite surfer.

HM Coastguard initially responded during the service when a kite surfer was reported to be in difficulties in the strong winds. The surfer managed to scramble ashore leaving his equipment to drift in the swell. A local seal decided to investigate which from the shore looked like a person was still attached to the kite. To avoid concern from the public and the likelihood of further call-outs during the day it was decided to request the assistance of the inshore lifeboat (ILB) to recover the equipment. In the challenging surf the ILB launched with three crewmen on board and quickly recovered the kite and harness.
