Both Eastbourne lifeboats were launched at 10.28 this morning at the request of Dover Coastguard when a youth with a previous history of hiding amongst the rocks was reported missing.
The 15 year old boy with learning difficulties had been reported as missing by his carer earlier in the morning and it was feared he had made his way to the Beachy Head area of the seafront. With a flooding tide, concerns were raised to the potential of the boy being cut off from a safe exit. Both volunteer lifeboat crews conducted a thorough shoreline search from Holywell to the Belle Tout lighthouse. Meanwhile mobile Coastguard units and local Police officers searched the beach. The Police helicopter also swept the area using their thermal imaging equipment. With nothing found the search was eventually called off at 12.00 and both boats returned to station and were made ready for service.
