Eastbourne RNLI’s inshore lifeboat launched at 7.20pm last night following reports that a male person had jumped from Eastbourne pier and was showing signs of cold water shock

Members of the public were concerned when they witnessed the 27 year old jump from the pier and immediately began to suffer in the cold water. He managed to clamber up the pier supports before screaming for help. HM Coastguard received several 999 calls and requested the immediate launch of the inshore lifeboat (ILB). The volunteer lifeboat crew assembled and were quickly on scene. The casualty was taken aboard the ILB and transferred to the beach where he was passed into the care of waiting police, coastguard and ambulance personnel.
