Eastbourne inshore lifeboat was launched at the request of Solent Coastguard on Monday evening to search for suspected missing persons at Beachy Head
Local coastguard cliff rescue personnel discovered tyre tracks close to the cliff edge in a notorious suicide area close to Beachy Head and feared the worst. Unable to see the beach as darkness descended the assistance of Eastbourne inshore lifeboat (ILB) was requested. The volunteer ILB launched at 17.30pm in near freezing conditions and conducted a thorough search of the area including a foot patrol of the beach. With nothing found the search was eventually called off two hours later and the crew returned to station for a well earned cup of hot tea.
