Past Captains of Eastbourne Downs Golf Club, John and Marilyn Boniface, attended Eastbourne lifeboat station recently to present a cheque for £1428.34 raised by the Downs members at a club auction.
John said, “Having had past family members involved in the lifeboat service and lived locally most of my life I realise the importance of the work carried out by the crews here in Eastbourne. I have always admired the professionalism and often heroic actions that these crew members undertake and, as they rely on public support, I am pleased to be able to make this donation. John added, “My wife and I enjoyed learning all about the running and practicalities of the way the lifeboat is run during our visit. I think what came over most to me was the sheer professionalism that has encompassed the institution since the days that my Grandad and his brothers were involved.” Accepting the cheque on behalf of Eastbourne lifeboats, Dr Colin McKee, Chairman of the Lifeboat Management Group, thanked Eastbourne Downs Golf Club for their continued support and hoped the strong local association between the two organisations will remain for many years to come.
