For the second time in a day Eastbourne all-weather lifeboat (ALB) was launched to assist yachts with engine failure attempting to enter Sovereign Harbour
Initially the ALB was launched at the request of HM Coastguard to assist a 14 metre yacht that was on passage to take part in the forthcoming Fastnet Yacht Race. The yacht had suffered an engine failure and was unable to negotiate the restricted space of the harbour entrance. Whilst the vessel was being towed to the marina another request was received by the volunteer lifeboat crew to help a 10 metre yacht which had an overheating engine. With the first casualty safely secured in the marina locks the ALB returned to collect the second vessel.
