Pupils from Bede’s Prep School completed the Eastbourne Lions Swimathon and raised £937.23 for Eastbourne Lifeboats

Thirteen pupils from Bede’s School gave up their spare time to take part in the Eastbourne Lions Swimathon. The children, aged between 8 and 13, swam solidly for twenty minutes cheered on by parents, teachers and friends. Each of the children clocked up between twenty eight and thirty six lengths and collectively they swam 392 lengths or a distance of almost 10,000 metres.

This has become an annual event as part of the school’s charitable work and the children are always keen to choose a charity related in some way to the water. This year they chose Eastbourne RNLI and by the end of the evening had raised £937.23 for this worthy cause. The cheque was presented by Hannah Jebb and mother Michelle to Lifeboat Coxswain Mark Sawyer. In accepting the cheque Mark thanked all the pupils for their magnificent effort and reminded them all to respect the water and stay safe.
