The Mayor of Eastbourne presented £10,200 from the outgoing bucket collection at this year’s Airbourne event to Eastbourne lifeboats this weekend on behalf of the Eastbourne Hospitality Association

Eastbourne RNLI’s new lifeboat appeal was nominated as the favoured charity for the very successful ‘Airbourne’ event held last summer. Dozens of volunteers manned collection buckets as spectators left the free event and 30% of the money collected was presented to the lifeboat appeal in a special ceremony held aboard the towns new lifeboat ‘Diamond Jubilee’ at Sovereign Harbour on Sunday morning.

Accepting the cheque from the Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Mike Thompson, Dr Colin McKee thanked the Hospitality Association for their continued support and said it was fitting as the appeal nears its end that they had kick started the appeal in October 2011 with proceeds from ‘Airbourne 2011’ and with this latest contribution helped ensure the appeal meets its target figure at the end of 2012.
